Semicon India 2025: Ashwini Vaishnaw Presents First Made-in-India Chip to PM Modi

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw presented the first Made-in-India chip to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inauguration of Semicon India 2025 on Tuesday. The unveiling marked a historic milestone in the country’s semiconductor journey and highlighted the government’s efforts under the ambitious India Semiconductor Mission.

Vaishnaw emphasized that India has reached a turning point in its chip manufacturing sector, showcasing rapid progress within just a few years of launching the mission.

Made-in-India chip showcased at Semicon India 2025

Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw noted that construction of five semiconductor units across India is progressing at high speed. “The pilot line of one unit is already complete, and we just presented the first Made-in-India chip to the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Two more units will begin production in the coming months, while the design of five additional units is advancing well. Ecosystem partners for chip manufacturing are all here,” he said.

Semicon India 2025 highlights India’s stability and growth

Vaishnaw underlined that India is becoming a symbol of stability in a volatile global environment. “We are living in unprecedented times. Global policy turmoil has created huge uncertainty. In these turbulent times, India stands as a lighthouse of stability and growth. You should come to India because our policies are stable,” the minister remarked.

A look back at India Semiconductor Mission

Reflecting on the early phase of the India Semiconductor Mission, Vaishnaw recalled its humble beginnings. “Just a few years ago, we met for the first time to make a new beginning. Guided by our Prime Minister’s visionary leadership, we launched the India Semiconductor Mission. We brought together globally renowned industry experts and stayed focused on execution. In just three and a half years, the world now looks at India with confidence,” he explained.

Semicon India 2025 opens doors for global investors

The minister also invited global investors to participate in India’s semiconductor growth story. He highlighted that electronics production in India has increased six times over the past decade, while electronics exports have grown eight times. “Demand for semiconductors is rising every quarter as Make in India drives new plants across sectors. This is the time to be in India,” he urged.

He further stressed that the government has built a transparent and professional framework to support the semiconductor ecosystem. From consumer electronics and automobiles to defense and strategic industries, the policy covers every sector with detailed analysis from global semiconductor professionals.
