Dubai: The uncertainty surrounding Pakistan’s participation in the Asia Cup 2025 has been resolved, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirming that the team will take the field against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) tonight. The match, which was earlier clouded by the handshake controversy, will now officially begin at 9:00 PM IST, with the toss scheduled for 8:30 PM IST.
According to reports, the PCB appealed to Asia Cup officials to delay the start of the game by an hour as discussions continued regarding their demands. Cricbuzz confirmed that the Pakistan squad has left their hotel and is en route to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, ending speculation of a boycott.

The PCB had earlier threatened to pull out of the tournament after India’s players, led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, refused to shake hands with the Pakistan team on September 14. In protest, skipper Salman Ali Agha skipped the post-match presentation ceremony.
Despite lodging multiple appeals to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to remove match referee Andy Pycroft, Pakistan’s requests were denied. The ICC has stood firm on its decision, confirming that Pycroft will continue officiating the game against UAE.
Key discussions continue at PCB headquarters
According to PTI, former PCB chairmen Ramiz Raza and Najam Sethi are currently in talks with PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi at the board headquarters in Lahore to resolve the standoff. While the leadership tussle continues in the background, the players have been instructed to focus on the crucial Group A fixture.
