The scrutiny of nomination papers for the second and final phase of the Bihar Assembly elections is being conducted today. Grand Alliance Faces Internal Clashes in Bihar Polls
Meanwhile, a new development has emerged within the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan), as several of its constituent parties have fielded candidates against each other. After the completion of nominations for the second phase, a few constituencies are witnessing direct contests between the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and the Communist Party of India (CPI).
The RJD has put forward candidates in 143 seats, the Congress in 61, and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation in 20. The Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), led by Mukesh Sahani, has also entered the fray with 15 candidates. Among other Left parties, CPI has nominated candidates in 9 constituencies, while CPI (Marxist) is contesting in 4. The Indian Inclusive Party has fielded candidates in 4 seats as well.
Internal Rivalries in Grand Alliance Add Twist to Bihar Political Scene
In total, the Bihar Assembly comprises 243 seats, with both election phases determining the future political balance of the state. Interestingly, the Congress and the RJD—both allies in the Grand Alliance—are competing against each other in six constituencies. Similarly, in four seats, Congress and CPI candidates are facing direct contests. These overlapping nominations highlight the growing complexities within the coalition. The final electoral picture will become clearer once the withdrawal process concludes on October 23.
