Man Trampled to Death by Wild Elephants in Ganjam’s Belatuni Village

Ganjam: A 40-year-old man was tragically killed after being attacked by a herd of wild elephants at Belatuni village under Bhanjanagar block in Ganjam district on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Bikram Nayak, a resident of Belatuni village. Reports indicate that the elephants strayed into Nayak’s home, dragged him outside, and trampled him to death.

MLA Orders Immediate Action and Assistance

Following the incident, local MLA Pradyumna Kumar Nayak instructed the District Forest Officer (DFO) to take swift action. He also directed authorities to provide financial assistance to the victim’s family in accordance with government norms.

Rising Human-Elephant Conflict in the Area

The tragic death has sparked panic among villagers, who expressed growing concerns over the increasing human-elephant conflicts in the region. Authorities are reviewing measures to prevent such incidents in the future, including enhanced patrolling and community awareness programs.

Human-elephant conflicts have become a recurring challenge in Odisha, particularly in districts like Ganjam, Angul, and Keonjhar, where wild elephants often enter human settlements in search of food.
