The occasion is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, and devotees observe fasts, perform Satyanarayan Puja, and offer prayers with great devotion. Offering arghya (water) to the Moon God is considered highly meritorious.

Dev Diwali 2025: The Festival of Gods

Dev Diwali is celebrated with grandeur on the same day, especially along the ghats of Varanasi. It commemorates Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. The entire city is illuminated with countless diyas (lamps), creating a breathtaking spiritual atmosphere that draws pilgrims from across the country.

In South India, Kartik Purnima marks the birth anniversary of Lord Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva. Devotees celebrate with devotion and joy, offering prayers and lighting lamps.

The day is also significant for the Kartik Snan ritual. Taking a holy dip in sacred rivers such as Ganga, Yamuna, and Godavari is believed to purify the soul and absolve sins. Thousands of devotees gather at holy sites like Haridwar, Pushkar, and Varanasi to perform this ritual.

Kartik Purnima in Jainism

For Jains, this day marks the moment when Gautama Swami, the chief disciple of Lord Mahavira, attained Kevala Jnana (complete knowledge). Followers of Jainism observe special prayers and rituals to commemorate this event of enlightenment.

Guru Nanak Jayanti 2025

The day also marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. Devotees celebrate his Parkash Purab with deep reverence through kirtans (devotional hymns), Akhand Path (continuous reading of the Guru Granth Sahib), and langars (community meals). His teachings of equality, unity, humility, and devotion continue to inspire millions around the world.
