New Delhi: To ensure smooth and hassle-free travel during the Holi festival, the Holi special trains from Katra have been announced by the Jammu Railway Division of Northern Railways. The special reserved trains will operate from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to New Delhi and Varanasi during February–March 2026.

The initiative is aimed at managing the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the festive season, improving ticket availability and ensuring safe, comfortable journeys for travelers.

Special Trains to Benefit Multiple States

Railway officials said the special trains will halt at major stations along their routes, benefiting passengers from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. These stops will help ease congestion on regular services and provide additional travel options for people returning home or heading to religious destinations during Holi.

The move reflects Indian Railways’ focus on proactive planning to address peak-season demand and enhance passenger convenience.

IRCTC Launches Tourist Train for Pilgrims

In a parallel initiative to promote pilgrimage tourism, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced a full-fare tourist train from Pratapnagar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra.

The special tourist train is expected to attract devotees from western India, offering a convenient and organised travel option to one of the country’s most visited pilgrimage sites during the festive period.

Focus on Safe and Comfortable Festive Travel

Railway authorities said the combined measures are intended to ensure better crowd management, reduced waiting lists and enhanced travel safety during Holi. Passengers have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and check official railway platforms for schedules, halts and booking details.

With festive demand set to rise sharply, the Holi special trains and IRCTC tourist service are expected to play a key role in facilitating smooth travel across regions while supporting pilgrimage and cultural tourism.
