New Delhi: A major controversy disrupted the India AI Impact Summit 2026 after allegations surfaced that a Chinese robot dog was falsely presented as an indigenous innovation. The issue triggered swift administrative action and opened a political flashpoint around credibility, transparency, and India’s AI ambitions.
The storm centres on claims that Noida-based Galgotias University showcased a Chinese-made robot dog as its own creation, ‘Orion’, during the high-profile summit.
Galgotias University Under Fire at India AI Impact Summit 2026 Robot Dog
The controversy erupted when representatives from Galgotias University reportedly described the robotic dog as an invention developed by the university’s Centre of Excellence. The demonstration included explanations of its features and technological capabilities, presented as original work.
However, it soon emerged that the robot dog closely matched the Go2 AI-powered robot dog, developed by Chinese robotics firm Unitree. This revelation led to allegations of misrepresentation at the national AI platform.
Top sources later indicated that Galgotias University had been asked to pack up and leave the AI Expo, although representatives at the stall claimed they had received no such official communication.
Wipro Distances Itself from Allegations
IT major Wipro also showcased a robot dog at the event, but company sources firmly rejected any comparison with the Galgotias case. They clarified that Wipro is a software-focused organisation and has never claimed ownership of hardware manufacturing.
“Our case is completely different from Galgotias University,” company sources said, emphasising that the robot dog, named ‘TJ’, was used to demonstrate AI software applications rather than being claimed as an in-house hardware invention.
At the summit, a Wipro representative explained how the AI-powered robot dog could assist in hazardous environments, disaster response, and accident-prone situations, positioning it as a human substitute for risky tasks.
Government Confirms Action Over Wrongdoing
Amid the growing uproar, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that corrective steps had been taken at the AI exhibition.

“In the Artificial Intelligence exhibition, many good solutions have been presented. If anyone has done wrong, immediate action has been taken against the wrongdoing,” the minister told reporters, urging focus on genuine innovations showcased at the summit.
His remarks came against the backdrop of political sparring over the alleged misuse of a Chinese robotic product at a national AI platform.
Political Fallout and Damage Control
While Galgotias University attempted to downplay the episode as an “exaggeration and misinterpretation,” stating that its efforts align with the government’s mission and vision, the controversy handed opposition parties fresh ammunition to target the government over oversight lapses.
The episode has raised broader questions about vetting mechanisms at national technology expos and the importance of transparency as India positions itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 robot dog controversy underscores the reputational risks of misrepresentation at flagship technology events, even as the government moves to reinforce accountability and highlight authentic innovation.
