  KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • The operations were conducted in Datta Khel, Spinwam and Bannu.
  • The military said troops engaged militants in intense gun battles.

Peshawar: Inter-Services Public Relations on Friday said Pakistani security forces killed 23 terrorists during a series of intelligence-based operations conducted across the country’s volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to the military, operations were carried out on Wednesday and Thursday in multiple areas including Datta Khel, Spinwam and Bannu, where troops engaged militants in heavy exchanges of fire.

The operations come amid continuing security challenges along Pakistan’s northwestern regions bordering Afghanistan.

Pakistan Anti-Terror Operations Intensify in Khyber Region

The military said the operations were intelligence-driven and specifically targeted militant hideouts and movement corridors.

Security forces reportedly launched coordinated action after receiving information regarding terrorist presence in the affected areas.

The second-order effect of intensified anti-terror operations could further increase military pressure on armed groups operating near the Afghanistan border, while also escalating security deployments and surveillance across sensitive tribal regions.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in militant violence over the past few years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

ISPR Says Troops Engaged Militants in Heavy Firefight

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, troops encountered armed resistance during the operations and several intense gun battles took place.

The military did not immediately disclose whether any security personnel were injured or killed during the action.

The areas where operations occurred have long remained vulnerable to militant infiltration because of their proximity to porous border zones and difficult terrain.

Rising Security Concerns in Pakistan

Pakistan’s security establishment has recently stepped up counterterror operations following increased attacks on:

  • Security forces
  • Police personnel
  • Government installations
  • Civilian targets

Analysts believe instability in neighbouring Afghanistan and the movement of armed groups across border regions continue to complicate Pakistan’s internal security environment.

The country has repeatedly accused militant organisations of using border areas as operational safe zones.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Remains Security Flashpoint

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has remained one of Pakistan’s most sensitive security regions for years due to insurgency, cross-border militancy and extremist activity.

Authorities have intensified intelligence-based operations in the province as part of broader efforts to contain militant networks and prevent large-scale attacks.

The latest operations underline Pakistan’s continuing struggle to stabilise its northwestern frontier amid evolving regional security threats.
