KENDRAPADA: The Bhitarkanika National Park reopens announcement has brought good news for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, as Odisha’s renowned mangrove ecosystem has once again opened its gates to visitors. The park in Kendrapara district resumed tourism activities after remaining closed for three months to ensure the undisturbed nesting and breeding of estuarine crocodiles.
Forest officials said both day visitors and overnight tourists are now permitted to enter the park, while strict eco-friendly measures, including a complete ban on plastic, have been implemented to protect the fragile ecosystem.
Bhitarkanika National Park Reopens After Crocodile Nesting Season
The park remained closed from May 1 to July 31, a routine annual measure that allows estuarine crocodiles to breed and nest without human disturbance.
With the breeding season now over, the Rajnagar Mangrove (Wildlife) Forest Division has reopened the protected area for tourism activities, enabling visitors to explore one of India’s most significant mangrove forests and wildlife habitats.
Officials said the temporary closure plays an important role in supporting crocodile conservation and maintaining the ecological balance of the national park.
Plastic Ban Enforced for Visitors
To strengthen conservation efforts, authorities have imposed a complete ban on plastic inside the park.
Visitors have been advised to follow all environmental guidelines and avoid carrying plastic items into the protected area to minimise pollution and safeguard wildlife.
