Odisha Vigilance Arrests Khariar BDO

Nuapada: Odisha Vigilance arrested Narayan Sahoo, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Khariar block in Nuapada district on Wednesday night. He was arrested on charges of possessing disproportionate assets that are 106 percent more than his known source of income, officials said.

BDO Narayan Sahoo was produced in the court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir and remanded in judicial custody till January 31.

On Tuesday, the anti-corruption agency conducted simultaneous raids at five locations linked to BDO. The movable and immovable property in the name of Sahoo and his family members was discovered during house searches.

After a thorough search, inventory and further investigation, Sahoo’s income, expenditure and assets were calculated and it was found that he owns disproportionate assets which are 106 per cent more than his known sources of income, the Vigilance department said.

In this context, proceedings were conducted against the accused official and his husband according to 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC of the PC Act, 1988 as amended by the PC Act, 2018. Further investigation into the case is underway, Odisha Vigilance officials said.

The property in the name of BDO  as, One double-storeyed building over plot No.83 and Khata No.236 near backside of Vatika Hotel, Bolangir town worth approx Rs.88 Lakhs. Land plots in and around Bolangir. Cash seized Rs.3.99 Lakh. Bank and Insurance deposits worth over Rs.13.49 Lakhs. Also Gold jewellery is 764 gms and silver ornaments are 720 gms worth over Rs.36 Lakhs. One 4-wheeler car worth Rs.14.38 Lakhs and two 2-wheelers. Household articles worth over Rs.7 Lakh.
