New Delhi: The Government of India has been awarded the Porter Prize 2023 by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry (MoHFW) as a remarkable achievement in recognition of the country’s efforts in the health sector, particularly in controlling the Covid-19. The award was held at the India Dialogue hosted by the Institute for Competitiveness (IFC at Stanford University) and the United States Asia Technology Management Center (USATMC) 2023.

Porter Prize 2023 was presented to MoHFW in the virtual presence of Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

The theme of the conference was “The Indian Economy 2023: Innovation, Competitiveness and Social Progress”.

The award recognizes the strategies, approaches and multi-stakeholder engagement followed by the Government of India to manage COVID-19, particularly the involvement of ASHA workers in the industry to manufacture PPE kits. The idea of vaccine development and vaccine production and the scale that India has achieved has been phenomenal. India has delivered more than 2.5 billion doses today, which is amazing.” It has taken all necessary measures to fight the situation of covid in this country. “

Experts have pointed out that the strategy followed by India has been very successful in managing Covid. They elaborated on the three principles of India’s strategy for containment, relief packages and vaccination. We believe that these three measures are critical to saving lives and ensuring economic activity by containing the spread of Covid-19, preserving livelihoods and creating immunity against the virus. Thus, India has balanced social challenges and economic outcomes when planning its response and demonstrated resilience through its health system.

“On behalf of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it is indeed an honour and privilege to be a recipient of this prestigious award. We treat it as a milestone that would encourage us to do better in the future and ensure that our responses are more agile and evidence-based. We are able to engage with the community at large to explain to them why certain interventions have been initiated to ensure a greater offtake of those interventions because we must realize that whatever we do in the area of the social sector, particularly health and education has an intrinsic link with the economy and the performance of the economy both in the short-term and in the long-term”, Shri Rajesh Bhushan said.
