Bhubaneswar: The state government of Odisha has initiated preparations to bring 4G mobile access to all disconnected villages in the state within a year, according to state IT secretary Manoj Kumar Mishra on Tuesday.

Minister Tusharkanti Behera informed the CM on the E&IT department’s major projects and the transformational impact of these initiatives on governance and residents.

Mishra told reporters after the meeting that “non-availability of telecom network is a major problem the state is facing.” Students from rural places had difficulty taking online lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The Chief Minister raised this problem with the Prime Minister and received approval for telecom towers. To expedite the construction of telecom towers, the Odisha Cabinet has agreed to grant 2000 square feet of free land, he said.

Reliance Jio has received approval to build 3000 towers in 10 districts, for which land has been granted in almost all of the identified locations. The secretary stated that due to forest diversion concerns, land assignment has only been completed in 36/38 sites.

Mishra stated that the Odisha State Workflow Automation System (OSWAS) has been extended across all departments in the Secretariat, all directorates/HoDs, all district collectorates, and the Odisha DG and SP offices, encompassing approximately 15,000 users today and resulting in prompt decision making at all levels.

From the state to the block level, video conferencing facilities have also been made available. “We are planning to connect all panchayats through video conferencing mode so that the government can directly connect all GPs at once,” he said, adding, “We are planning to connect all panchayats through video conferencing mode so that the government can directly connect all GPs at once.”

IT exports have more than doubled, rising from Rs 2317 crores in 2013-14 to Rs 5500 crores in 2021-22. According to him, the IT employment has grown from roughly 9,800 in 2010-11 to 20,000 in 2018-19 to around 40,000 in 2022-23.

Social benefits are now being deposited straight to beneficiaries’ bank accounts as a result of IT enablement. While just Rs 10,881 crores were sent through DBT in 2017-18, it has climbed to Rs 25,878 crores in 2022-23, he stated.
