Centre Extends AFSPA in Parts of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh & Nagaland for Six Months

Published on

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) for another six months in select regions of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, starting from tomorrow.

Centre Extends AFSPA in Manipur

In Manipur, AFSPA will remain in force across all districts except for areas under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations located in five districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching. The state has been facing ongoing ethnic violence since May 2023, prompting the continuation of the law in most areas.

Centre Extends AFSPA in Nagaland & Arunachal Pradesh

In Nagaland, AFSPA has been extended in eight districts and parts of five others. Meanwhile, in Arunachal Pradesh, the law will continue to be enforced in the districts of Tirap, Changlang, and Longding, along with select areas in Namsai district.

The extension aims to strengthen security measures in these states, where insurgency-related activities continue to pose challenges. The move is part of the Centre’s strategy to maintain law and order in the Northeast region.
