PM Modi to Dedicate Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link

Published on

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow to dedicate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) to the nation and flag off two Vande Bharat Express trains, marking a significant milestone in India’s railway infrastructure development.

USBRL: A Historic Railway Connectivity Project

The 272-kilometre USBRL project, built at a cost of ₹44,000 crore, connects the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India via an all-weather, fully electrified rail route. According to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Railway Board, the project includes:

  • 36 tunnels
  • 943 bridges, including the world’s highest railway arch bridge — Chenab Bridge
  • India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge — Anji Bridge

These engineering marvels make the USBRL not only a symbol of technological advancement but also a strategic connector for national integration and economic development.

Strengthening Regional Connectivity

The USBRL project ensures seamless and all-weather connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, which is expected to transform regional mobility, boost tourism, and enhance socio-economic integration across Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.

Vande Bharat Trains to Link Vaishno Devi and Srinagar

In a move to enhance passenger rail service, PM Modi will also flag off two new Vande Bharat Express trains:

  • From Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar
  • From Srinagar to Katra

These modern, semi-high-speed trains will offer faster, more comfortable travel for pilgrims, locals, and tourists alike, giving a significant push to regional development and accessibility
