Trump to Get Rid of Red Tesla After Fallout With Elon Musk; Says Car Was Never a Gift

Published on

Washington, D.C., June 7, 2025 – Former U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to part ways with his Tesla vehicle, following an increasingly bitter public feud with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla Purchase Meant as Political Gesture

In March 2025, Trump purchased a red Tesla for $80,000, paying the full retail price without discounts. The move was intended as a show of support for Tesla during a time when the company’s stock was under pressure and Elon Musk was facing backlash over his political interventions.

At the time, Trump clarified that the car was not a gift from Musk and was intended for official White House staff use—not personal transportation.

Breakdown in Trump-Musk Relationship

Tensions between the two influential figures came to a head when Musk publicly criticized Trump’s proposed “Big, Beautiful Bill.” Trump claimed Musk had been involved in shaping the bill during his administration but was now opposing it for political reasons.

“I was very disappointed,” Trump said Thursday. “He was in the loop on every aspect of the bill. Now he’s opposing it only after leaving the administration.”

Public Insults and Escalating Accusations

In response, Musk accused Trump of dishonesty and claimed credit for helping Trump rise to power. The dispute quickly turned personal, with Musk calling Trump a “liar” and suggesting links to the Epstein case—a serious allegation that Trump flatly denied.

Trump retaliated by threatening to terminate Musk’s government contracts, prompting Musk to announce that SpaceX could decommission its Dragon spacecraft—an integral part of U.S. space missions.

CNN reports that Trump is considering either selling or giving away the Tesla, now that his association with Musk has effectively ended. “I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem. The poor guy’s got a problem,” Trump said. “No, I won’t be speaking to him for a while, I guess—but I wish him well.”

Although insiders suggest there is still hope for salvaging the relationship, both sides appear to be moving further apart.
