Dassault Aviation and Tata to Manufacture Rafale Fuselage in India Under Landmark Aerospace Agreement

Published on

In a historic move, Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) have signed four Production Transfer Agreements to locally manufacture the Rafale fighter aircraft’s fuselage. This marks the first time Rafale components will be produced outside France, a milestone in India’s journey towards self-reliant defence production.

Hyderabad to Become New Aerospace Hub

TASL will establish a state-of-the-art production facility in Hyderabad, focused on building the Rafale’s front section, central fuselage, rear section, and rear lateral shells. This investment will significantly enhance India’s aerospace manufacturing infrastructure.

Full-Scale Production to Start by FY2028

The facility is expected to begin output by FY2028, with a target to deliver up to two complete fuselages per month. This aligns with Dassault’s global production strategy to meet increasing demand.

Dassault Commits to ‘Make in India’ and Supply Chain Localization

Dassault CEO Eric Trappier emphasized the strategic importance of expanding production beyond France and recognized TASL’s capabilities. The deal reinforces Dassault’s commitment to India’s ‘Make in India’ and AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiatives by transferring core manufacturing responsibilities.

Tata’s Growing Aerospace Capabilities Recognized Globally

Sukaran Singh, CEO & MD of TASL, highlighted the trust placed in the company by global aerospace leaders. He stated that this deal validates India’s maturing defence manufacturing ecosystem and cements Tata’s role as a reliable global supply chain partner.

Strategic Impact on India’s Defence and Economy

This collaboration enhances India’s strategic defence autonomy, boosts skilled employment, and helps integrate the Indian aerospace industry into global fighter jet production networks.
