Khordha, Odisha: In a major road accident on Sunday afternoon, a private bus named ‘Nilakantha’ overturned on National Highway-16 (NH-16) near Pitapalli in Khordha district, injuring more than 30 passengers. At least seven people sustained serious injuries in the crash.

The mishap occurred around 2 PM on the Khordha-Berhampur section of the highway when the bus, en route from Bhubaneswar to Aska in Ganjam district, reportedly lost control. According to initial reports, the driver struck the road divider, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Emergency response teams, including personnel from Silpanchal Police Station and the Khordha Fire Brigade, rushed to the site. The injured were promptly shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Authorities have confirmed that a formal investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether negligence or over-speeding played a role.

This incident highlights the growing concerns about road safety on busy national highways, especially on weekends when traffic volumes are high.
