DODA/JAMMU: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday staged protests across Doda district and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir following the detention of its MLA, Mehraj Malik, under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Malik, who represents Doda constituency and serves as the president of AAP’s J-K unit, was arrested on Monday for allegedly disturbing public order and has been lodged in Kathua district jail.
Mass Protests in Doda
Hundreds of AAP workers and supporters gathered at village Bhatyas, raising slogans in favour of Malik’s release. They later marched towards Doda town, intensifying the protest.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in strength across sensitive locations in the district to prevent any untoward incident.
Party Reaction
AAP leaders have strongly condemned Malik’s detention, calling it an attack on democracy and demanding his immediate release. The party has warned of statewide agitations if Malik continues to be held under the PSA.
Law and Order Measures
Authorities said Malik was detained after repeated complaints of activities that could potentially disturb peace and public order. Meanwhile, curbs have been tightened in parts of Doda to ensure the situation remains under control.
