Amit Shah Orders Central Expert Team for Disaster-Hit Himachal Pradesh Amid Rising Flood

Published on

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the formation of a high-level multi-sectoral Central Team to assess and respond to the worsening disaster situation in Himachal Pradesh, which is facing increasing incidents of cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and torrential rains during the 2025 monsoon season.

Central Team with Expert Institutions

Following a detailed briefing on the growing impact of extreme weather in the region, HM Shah ordered the formation of a Central Team comprising specialists from:

  • National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)
  • Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee
  • Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune
  • Geological experts
  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore

The team will evaluate the structural, environmental, and meteorological impact of the disasters.

Advance Inter-Ministerial Central Team Deployed

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has already been sent to Himachal Pradesh in advance, even before receiving the state’s damage memorandum, to carry out first-hand assessments in the affected regions. The IMCT is conducting field visits across disaster-hit areas from July 18 to 21.

Rescue and Relief in Full Swing

As many as 13 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed for ongoing rescue and relief efforts across the state. Additionally, Army personnel and Indian Air Force resources have been mobilized to provide logistical support.

Strong Central Support: Financial and Strategic

The Central Government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, continues to extend non-discriminatory support to all states in times of crisis. In 2023 alone, a high-level committee chaired by Amit Shah approved a recovery and reconstruction package of ₹2006.40 crore for Himachal Pradesh. Of this, ₹451.44 crore was released on July 7, 2025, as the first instalment.

Moreover, ₹198.80 crore was earlier disbursed from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) on June 18 as part of the Centre’s contribution to relief efforts.

Unified Disaster Response

The government reiterated its commitment to providing all logistical and technical assistance, including expert deployment and rapid mobilization of rescue forces, to tackle the ongoing crisis effectively.
