Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that BJP-led NDA governments in 21 states will introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) before 2029, ahead of the next Lok Sabha elections.

Shah made the statement while speaking to reporters in Mumbai on Sunday. He was discussing the achievements of the central government over the past 12 years and the BJP’s political journey under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Home Minister said the abolition of triple talaq had given Muslim women equal rights and pointed to the introduction of the UCC in several states as part of the government’s reforms.

Amit Shah Says 21 States Will Introduce UCC

Shah expressed confidence that all 21 states governed by the BJP-led NDA would introduce the Uniform Civil Code before 2029.

The UCC has already been introduced in several states, while the issue remains an important part of the BJP’s broader policy agenda.

Shah’s statement comes ahead of the next Lok Sabha election, which is scheduled for 2029.

Shah Highlights Criminal Justice Reforms

The Home Minister also highlighted changes to India’s criminal justice system through the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

He claimed that several states had recorded an increase of around 30% in conviction rates in a single year. Shah also said work was underway to establish a system aimed at ensuring cases receive justice within three years.

The remarks formed part of his broader assessment of government reforms since 2014.

Amit Shah Speaks on National Security

On national security, Shah highlighted the government’s decision to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A, claiming the move was carried out without bloodshed or the firing of a bullet.

He said Jammu and Kashmir had now been fully integrated with India.

Shah also said the government had brought an end to five decades of Naxalism and signed more than 14 peace agreements in the Northeast. According to him, more than 9,000 people had surrendered as part of efforts to bring stability and development to the region.

Terrorism and Illegal Immigration

Shah said surgical strikes, air strikes and Operation Sindoor demonstrated what he described as the government’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.

Asked about the identification and removal of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, Shah said the government would identify illegal infiltrators individually and take steps to remove them from the country.

He argued that revealing the methods being used to detect them would make it easier for those being targeted to evade identification.

‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ to Begin on September 17

Shah also announced the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, which will run from September 17 to October 17.

The campaign will mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as well as his 25-year political journey in Gujarat and at the Centre.

Shah’s remarks covered a range of issues, including the UCC, criminal justice reforms, national security, terrorism, Naxalism and immigration, as the BJP prepares for its longer-term political agenda ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
