Berhampur Police in Odisha Crack Down on Gun-Runners Again, Seven Arrested
BERHAMPUR: In a major crackdown on criminal elements, Berhampur police arrested seven known offenders on Friday night and seized a large cache of illegal arms, ammunition, and other incriminating materials.
Five of the accused were apprehended within the Gosaninuagaon police limits, while the remaining two were nabbed in the Baidyanathpur area.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M said the operation was jointly conducted by Gosaninuagaon and Baidyanathpur police stations.
Among the items seized were a country-made pistol with nine live rounds, five hand bombs, a country-made air gun, six mobile phones, 22 ATM cards from various banks, three pistols, six empty magazines, 34 rounds of live ammunition, a Mahindra TUV 300 vehicle, and ₹1,11,500 in cash.
Earlier this month, a similar operation led to the arrest of 12 gun runners. “Most history-sheeters are currently under police surveillance, and the crackdown will continue,” the SP said.
