Bhitarkanika National Park to Reopen for Tourists on August 1 After Breeding Season Closure

Published on

Bhubaneswar: Wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts have reason to rejoice as Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district is set to reopen its gates to tourists from August 1. The park had been closed since May 1 for the saltwater crocodile breeding season and conservation efforts.

Tourist Attractions and Activities

With preparations in full swing, the forest department has ensured that visitors will enjoy a seamless and safe experience. Tourists will once again be able to:

  • Witness the majestic saltwater crocodiles, including rare white crocodiles,
  • Take boat rides through the scenic mangrove waterways,
  • Stroll along the skywalk, and
  • Enjoy birdwatching in the lush wetland ecosystem.

Boost for Local Tourism and Economy

The reopening has sparked excitement among tourists and local businesses alike. Boat operators, tourist guides, hotels, and travel agencies are preparing for an influx of visitors. The seasonal closure from May 1 to July 31 was implemented to protect the nesting and breeding of crocodiles, minimizing human interference during this crucial period.

The reopening of Bhitarkanika not only promises an enriching wildlife experience but also serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between tourism and conservation.
