Bhubaneswar: In a proud moment for grassroots sports in India, Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati felicitated two young martial arts champions — Prem Munda and Rajkumar Munda — at a special event held at Raj Bhawan, Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The athletes, trained under the Jindal Foundation’s Wushu Training Program in Barbil, recently brought home gold medals from an international Wushu championship held in Moscow, Russia.

Barbil Youth Shine on Global Stage

Representing India in the men’s 48 kg and 52 kg categories, Prem and Rajkumar showcased exceptional skill and determination, a testament to the effectiveness of the Jindal Foundation’s holistic sports training model. Both athletes reside at the Jindal Sports Hostel in Barbil, where they receive comprehensive support including professional coaching, nutrition, education, and healthcare.

A Moment of Pride for Rural India

Expressing gratitude, Shallu Jindal, Chairperson of the Jindal Foundation, said, “These boys are a shining example of how rural talent can achieve global success when supported properly. Their victories are a symbol of the untapped potential that exists in the hinterlands of India.”

Building Champions Through CSR

Prashanta Hota, President and Group Head, CSR & Education at Jindal Steel, highlighted that the Wushu program, inspired by Jindal Steel Chairman and MP Naveen Jindal, aims to instill confidence, discipline, and global competitiveness in youth from remote areas. He emphasized that the medals won are not just sporting achievements, but triumphs of inclusion and empowerment.

Governor Applauds Grassroots Sports Development

Governor Kambhampati congratulated the young champions and praised the Jindal Foundation’s dedication to empowering rural youth through long-term mentorship and structured sports training. He called for continued efforts in grassroots sports to strengthen national pride and identity.

Jindal Foundation’s Sports Vision

The Jindal Foundation actively supports over 30,000 young athletes across India, offering training in Wushu, athletics, football, archery, and more. Its sports hostel in Barbil houses 60 tribal children, many of whom have gone on to win national and international honors — contributing to the vision of a stronger, healthier, and more competitive India on the global stage.
