The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has decided to levy a user fee on various categories of waste generators, including households, in a move aimed at strengthening the city’s solid waste management system. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation user fee initiative is expected to support sustainable cleanliness operations and improve service delivery across the Odisha capital.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation user fee to be collected ward-wise
As per the new decision, Swachh Sathis have been instructed to collect the prescribed user fee from their respective wards. The charges will apply to permanent residents, business units, commercial establishments, educational institutions and other organisations operating within the city limits. BMC Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo said the cleanliness partners have also been trained to ensure smooth and transparent fee collection.




Guidelines issued for proper waste disposal
Along with the fee structure, civic officials have released detailed guidelines for residents and institutions. Citizens have been advised to hand over waste only to authorised BMC vehicles and strictly follow source segregation norms by keeping wet, dry and hazardous waste separate. The administration has also warned against indiscriminate dumping of garbage in public places.

Mayor Sulochana Das appealed to residents to cooperate with the civic body and actively participate by paying the user fee. She emphasised that BMC undertakes several activities such as door-to-door waste collection, segregation at source and systematic transportation to build a robust and sustainable cleanliness ecosystem. According to her, public participation is key to making Bhubaneswar one of India’s cleanest cities.
Citizens urged to avoid pollution and use digital support tools
BMC officials have also urged citizens not to burn waste, highlighting the need to prevent air pollution. For additional information and assistance, residents can access services through the Safa App or contact BMC via its dedicated WhatsApp helpline number. The civic body believes that a combination of user participation, technology and accountability will help achieve long-term cleanliness goals.
