BJD to Gherao RDC Offices on July 21 Over FM College Student Soumyashri’s Self-Immolation

Published on

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has escalated its agitation demanding justice for Soumyashri Bisi, the FM College student who died following a self-immolation attempt. The party has announced a statewide protest on July 21, during which it will gherao all Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) offices across Odisha.

The announcement was made during a press conference at Shankha Bhawan, the BJD party headquarters, where senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra outlined the upcoming protest strategy.

Demands for Resignation and Judicial Inquiry

The BJD continues to hold the State government accountable for the incident. It has demanded the resignation of the Higher Education Minister and called for a judicial probe led by a sitting High Court judge.

Previous Protest Met with Police Action

This upcoming demonstration follows a similar protest held at Lok Seva Bhavan on July 16, where police intervened. The party’s movement began on July 15, the day Soumyashri’s death was confirmed, and leaders say the agitation will continue until her family receives justice.

Party Leaders Spearheading the Movement

The press meet was also attended by senior leaders including MLA Gautam Buddh Das, former MP Pradeep Majhi, and senior general secretary Bhrugu Buxipatra, all of whom reaffirmed the BJD’s commitment to intensifying the agitation.
