Body of Balangir Youth Found in Burla Power Canal
Bhubaneswar: In a deeply tragic incident, the body of a 22-year-old man from Balangir district was recovered from the Burla Power Canal near the Chipilima Hydro Electric Project on Saturday. The youth had gone missing after sending an emotional message to his ailing mother, saying he would end his life as he could no longer bear to see her suffer from cancer.
The deceased has been identified as Saurav Sambit Tripathy, a resident of Mahalakhmi Nagar in Balangir. According to reports, Saurav had gone missing from the Burla Bhimsen area on the evening of October 22 after sending his mother the heartbreaking text:
“Mom, I can’t bear to see you suffer… I’ll end my life by jumping into the Burla canal.”
Mother Battling Cancer at VIMSAR
Saurav’s mother, who has been battling cancer, was undergoing treatment at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla. He had been staying at the hospital to take care of her as her condition worsened. Overcome with emotional distress, he reportedly decided to take the extreme step.
Body Recovered Near Chipilima Power House
After he went missing, his family searched for him across several locations but failed to trace him. They later lodged a missing person report at the Burla police station. Acting on his last message, police and fire brigade personnel launched an extensive search operation in and around the canal. His body was eventually recovered near the Chipilima Power House.
The incident has left the local community in shock, highlighting the severe emotional toll that prolonged illness can have on families.
