Cabinet Decision: Odisha Increases Maximum Age Limit for Government Jobs to 42 Years

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved five departmental proposals today.

Among the key decisions, the Cabinet agreed to increase the maximum age limit for entry into various state government jobs from the current 32 years to 42 years, according to Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja.

This age limit is governed by the Odisha Civil Service (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989. Under the existing rules, the upper age limit for government job applicants was 32 years. The state government had received numerous requests to raise this limit, allowing older aspirants a chance to compete in recruitment processes.

After thorough review, the government has decided to extend the upper age limit to 42 years, Ahuja said.

He further added that additional relaxations in the age limit will continue to apply for candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC), women, ex-servicemen, and persons with disabilities (PwDs).

However, the increased age limit will not apply to positions where a higher age limit has already been defined by the government. It will also not be applicable to uniformed services such as police, fire services, forest, and excise departments.
