Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025 Launched Across India

Published on

New Delhi: The Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025 has been officially rolled out nationwide, following its notification on May 5, 2025 (S.O. 2015(E)), with detailed guidelines issued on June 4, 2025 (S.O. 2489(E)).

Under this initiative, any person injured in a road accident involving a motor vehicle will receive cashless treatment coverage of up to ₹1.5 lakh per victim. The benefit is applicable for a maximum of seven days from the date of the accident at any designated hospital in the country.

Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025 Ensures Timely Trauma Care

While the scheme operates independently from Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PM-JAY), it is a statutory programme designed to provide equitable and timely trauma care to road accident victims. Leveraging the National Health Authority’s IT platform, it enables seamless registration, verification, and claim processing, ensuring paperless and efficient service delivery.

By tapping into the existing hospital network and pre-defined health benefit packages, the scheme guarantees continuity of care, nationwide portability, and financial protection during emergencies.

The funding is shared between general insurance companies—covering cases where the offending vehicle is insured—and the Central Government, which allocates budgetary support for uninsured vehicle cases. For FY 2025-26, ₹272 crore has been earmarked for such uninsured accident cases.

This update was shared by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
