Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has strongly criticized the state government, alleging that the ongoing probe into the police sub-inspector recruitment scam is being manipulated to protect influential figures. The party claimed that the Odisha SI exam scam investigation by the Crime Branch is merely a cover-up effort rather than a genuine attempt to bring the culprits to justice.
Odisha SI Exam Scam Probe Faces Cover-Up Allegations
OPCC spokesperson Rajani Kumar Mohanty said that despite weeks of investigation, the masterminds behind the Odisha SI exam scam have not been arrested. He accused the Crime Branch of failing to interrogate senior officials of the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB), suggesting that the inquiry has been deliberately limited.
Third-Party Subcontracting Raises Questions
Mohanty highlighted major irregularities in the recruitment process. According to him, as per the original tender, the third-party agency Silicon Techlab was not permitted to subcontract the recruitment work to any other firm. However, it allegedly handed over key tasks to Panchsoft Technologies, a company headed by Sankar Prusty. The OPRB, he claimed, remained unaware of this unauthorized subcontracting.
Key Accused Still Untraced Despite Multiple Arrests
So far, 114 candidates involved in the manipulation of the exam have been arrested, but the alleged kingpin remains at large. Mohanty criticized the Crime Branch for focusing on small offenders while ignoring those who orchestrated the entire scam. “The main conspirators continue to roam free while innocent aspirants are being punished,” he said.
Political Angle Demands Deeper Investigation
The Congress leader further alleged a possible political connection in the case. He claimed that Sankar Prusty had gifted an expensive SUV to a senior BJP leader, an act that raises serious suspicion of political shielding. Mohanty demanded that the Crime Branch widen its investigation to include this aspect and expose any potential political involvement in the scam.
The controversy over the SI exam recruitment continues to stir political debate across Odisha, with the opposition calling for a high-level independent inquiry to ensure transparency and accountability.
