DGP Reviews Security Readiness for Puri Rath Yatra 2025

With the grand Rath Yatra festival in Puri set for June 27, 2025, Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP), Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, chaired a crucial preparatory meeting at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack. The focus was on ensuring comprehensive safety, crowd control, and smooth conduct of the event, which draws lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad.

Major Ritual Dates Reviewed

Officials discussed key ritual dates at the Jagannath Temple that will witness large gatherings:

  • Debasnana Purnima – June 11
  • Naba Jaubana Darshan – June 26
  • Rath Yatra – June 27
  • Hera Panchami – July 1
  • Sandhya Darshan – July 4
  • Bahuda Yatra – July 5
  • Suna Besha – July 6
  • Adhara Pana – July 7
  • Niladri Bije – July 8

These dates are expected to attract massive footfall, necessitating heightened security and logistical measures.

Key Security and Management Measures

  • Deployment of Senior Police Officers in key areas of Puri
  • Installation of CCTV Cameras at strategic locations
  • Traffic Regulation using road dividers, delineators, and designated parking
  • Temporary Police Outposts and Beach Patrolling for crowd management
  • Coordination with Railway Protection Force (RPF) for crowd control at Puri, Bhubaneswar, Khordha, and Jatni railway stations

  • Inspections of Hotels and Lodges for security vetting
  • Deployment of K-9 Units
  • Anti-Crime Drives and Surveillance
  • Emergency Response Teams for quick reaction
  • Barricading and VIP Arrangements, including helipad and accommodations for police staff
