Dream11 Withdraws as Team India’s Lead Sponsor After New Online Gaming Law

Published on

New Delhi: In a major development for Indian cricket, fantasy sports platform Dream11 has withdrawn as the lead sponsor of Team India, following the enactment of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. The law bans all real-money online gaming platforms, directly impacting Dream11’s operations.

While neither Dream11 nor the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued an official statement, an NDTV report suggests the company has decided not to continue its association. This move makes it highly unlikely that India’s jerseys will feature Dream11 branding during the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to begin on September 9 in the UAE.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized the board’s adherence to government policies:

“If it’s not permissible, we’ll not do anything. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country that is framed by the central government,” Saikia stated.

With Dream11 stepping back, the BCCI is now preparing to issue fresh tenders to identify a new lead sponsor for the national team’s jerseys. However, if a replacement is not finalized before the Asia Cup, the Indian cricket team may have to play without a front-of-jersey sponsor.

Interestingly, kits carrying Dream11’s logo have already been manufactured, but they are now expected to remain unused.

Dream11 has been one of the most prominent names in India’s fantasy sports market and had maintained a strong association with cricket. The company’s exit underscores the sweeping impact of the newly passed online gaming regulations on sponsorships and brand partnerships in Indian sports.
