Mayurbhanj: An elephant attack in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha claimed the life of a 35 year old man on Wednesday morning, highlighting the ongoing human wildlife conflict in forest fringe villages.
The victim, identified as Raghu Marandi from Bhadrasol village, died after a tusker suddenly attacked him near his house.
Elephant Attack Mayurbhanj: How the Incident Happened
According to reports, Marandi had stepped behind his house early in the morning to attend nature’s call when the elephant appeared suddenly. The tusker reportedly attacked him without warning.
The assault proved fatal, and the man died at the spot before help could arrive.
When Marandi did not return home for a long time, his family members began searching for him. They later found his body behind the house and raised an alarm in the village.
Villagers Demand Compensation
Residents of Bhadrasol gathered at the site after learning about the incident. The villagers informed forest officials and demanded compensation for the deceased man’s family.
Human elephant encounters are frequent in several forest border areas of Mayurbhanj, where wildlife habitats overlap with rural settlements.
The data suggests that early morning and late evening hours remain the most vulnerable periods for such encounters.
Investigation Underway
Local police and forest department officials soon reached the village and began investigating the incident.

The body of the deceased was later sent to a nearby hospital for post mortem examination.
