In a major spiritual and logistical milestone, the first batch of pilgrims for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is set to arrive in Gangtok tomorrow, marking the return of the yatra after a five-year gap. The Sikkim government has completed all necessary preparations to welcome the yatris.

Yatra to Begin from June 20

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Nathu La will officially begin on June 20, with Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang scheduled to flag off the first batch from Nathu La Pass. The revival of this sacred pilgrimage route is being seen as a significant development for devotees and the state.

Pilgrims to Acclimatise in High Altitude Zones

According to C S Rao, Additional Chief Secretary of Sikkim’s Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, the first group comprises 35 pilgrims, accompanied by government officials.

  • They will spend four days acclimatising at 15th Mile and Sherathang.
  • During this period, senior defence and government officials will brief the yatris on safety, health, and travel protocols.

Medical & Logistical Support in Place

Mr. Rao assured that the state and central government agencies are working in close coordination to ensure:

  • Medical aid, acclimatisation support, and
  • Security arrangements for the pilgrims.
Each batch will take approximately 11 to 12 days to complete the yatra.

Key Details:

  • Arrival in Gangtok: June 15
  • Yatra Flag-Off: June 20 by CM Prem Singh Tamang
  • Route: Gangtok → Nathu La → Kailash Mansarovar
  • Duration per batch: 11–12 days
