FM College Case: ICC Members Claim Report Was Rushed, Raise Serious Concerns

Balasore: In a startling development in the Fakir Mohan College self-immolation case, members of the college’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) have come forward alleging that their investigation report was prepared in haste and may not reflect the full scope of the incident.

The Odisha Crime Branch, which has taken over the investigation, has reportedly identified serious discrepancies in the internal probe conducted by the ICC.

Report Prepared Hastily, Say ICC Members

Sources say that several ICC members informed Crime Branch officials that the report was completed in a rushed manner, primarily because they were preoccupied with other official responsibilities. One member stated that student testimonies were recorded through a lottery system, meaning not all relevant students were questioned during the inquiry.

Unrelated Individuals Involved in Statement Recording

Raising further concerns, an ICC member disclosed that some individuals whose statements were recorded were not students of the Integrated B.Ed. course. “Unidentified students, who weren’t from the department concerned, were asked to give statements,” the member alleged, questioning the credibility and fairness of the internal investigation.

Key Questions Raised in the Incident

In light of the self-immolation attempt by the student, multiple unanswered questions have also emerged. “Why was the video of the incident recorded as the girl attempted self-immolation? Where did she get petrol from when she usually travels by bicycle?” a committee member asked, emphasizing the need for an unbiased and transparent investigation.

Public and Institutional Response

The incident has sparked outrage across Odisha, prompting student groups and civil society organizations to demand a fair and thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragic act. The Crime Branch is now expected to re-examine the entire timeline and procedural conduct of the ICC to ensure justice is served.
