Four Dead in Separate Lightning Strikes Across Odisha Districts

In a tragic turn of weather events, four individuals, including a woman, lost their lives due to lightning strikes in separate incidents across Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, and Bhadrak districts of Odisha on Sunday.

Farmer Killed While Working in Jajpur Field

A 65-year-old farmer from Balabhadrapur village under Jenapur police station limits in Jajpur district was killed after being struck by lightning while tending to his agricultural land.

Witnesses rushed him to Dharmasala Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead. A case of unnatural death has been registered and the body sent for post-mortem.

In Kuchinda area of Sambalpur, another man met a fatal end when he was struck by lightning while sheltering under a tree during the storm. Locals found him unresponsive and alerted the authorities.

A young woman was killed in Bhadrak district after lightning hit her while she was visiting a local garden. The suddenness of the incident left the community in shock.

The fourth fatality occurred in the Kujang area of Jagatsinghpur, where a farmer was struck by lightning while walking home from his fields. Despite efforts by locals, he succumbed on the spot.

Officials Urge Caution Amid Rising Lightning Incidents

Authorities have urged residents and farmers to avoid open fields, trees, and high ground during thunderstorms. Odisha often sees an increase in lightning-related deaths during the monsoon season, and precautions can help save lives.
