GSI Launches Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 Campaign Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

New Delhi: As part of the Government of India’s flagship Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has rolled out a series of initiatives under the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign from September 17 to October 2. Themed “Swachhotsav – Clean and Green Festivities & Zero-Waste Community Celebrations,” the campaign is designed to inspire collective responsibility and embed cleanliness as a way of life.

The drive began on September 17 with a nationwide Swachhata pledge at all GSI offices. The inauguration also featured plantation drives under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, disposal of scrap and e-waste, and the felicitation of Safai Mitras for their valuable contributions.

Focus on Cleanliness Target Units under Swachhata Hi Seva 2025

A core pillar of the campaign is the transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs). The GSI has identified 34 CTUs across the country for adoption and refurbishment, particularly focusing on eliminating black spots in collaboration with local communities and authorities. The effort is aimed at ensuring sustainable cleanliness and long-term upkeep of public areas.

Clean Public Spaces and Citizen Participation

Another strong focus of the initiative is the rejuvenation of public spaces. GSI teams will lead systematic cleanliness drives in offices, marketplaces, parks, transport hubs, and geo-heritage sites. Emphasis will be placed on citizen participation, with volunteers and local residents joining hands to create cleaner surroundings and foster community ownership.

Safai Mitra Welfare and Eco-Friendly Festivities

In recognition of the essential work of sanitation workers, GSI will organize Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs to provide health check-ups, distribute PPE kits, and facilitate access to social welfare schemes.

Additionally, the campaign will encourage eco-friendly festivities. Waste-free pujas, Swachhata rangolis, post-festival cleanups, and waste-to-art activities will be promoted across GSI offices and local communities to drive home the message of sustainability.

Nationwide Drives and Geo-Heritage Clean-Up

On September 25, GSI will participate in the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” nationwide initiative, where officers, staff, and citizens will take part in a one-hour mass cleanliness drive. Special attention will also be given to geo-heritage sites with major programmes scheduled at Nomira Pillow Lava (Odisha), Barabar Caves (Bihar), Dinosaur Fossil Park (Gujarat), and Sendra Granite (Rajasthan).

The campaign will conclude on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, with a closing ceremony to honor Safai Mitras and outstanding contributors. Through these efforts, GSI reaffirms its commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission, embedding cleanliness as a shared social responsibility.
