Hamas Political Leader Salah al-Bardaweel Killed In Israeli Airstrike
An Israeli airstrike killed Hamas political leader Salah al-Bardaweel in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, Hamas and Palestinian media said in the early hours of Sunday.
With hundreds of deaths reported by Palestinian health ministry officials, Israel has resumed fighting in Gaza on Tuesday, hitting targets throughout the war-torn region and breaking a weeks-long impasse over extending the ceasefire that halted violence in January.
According to a Reuters report that cited pro-Hamas media, the bombing also killed Bardaweel’s wife, who is a member of the group’s political office.
According to an Associated Press source, two hospitals in southern Gaza reported receiving 17 bodies from strikes overnight, including a number of women and children.

The primary goal of the conflict, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is to destroy Hamas as a military and political organization. He has also stated that the latest operation aims to pressure Hamas into releasing the remaining hostages.
Israeli attacks on Tuesday killed a number of officials, including Mahmoud Abu Watfa, the head of internal security, and Essam Addalees, the de facto leader of Hamas’ cabinet.
The chief of Hamas’ military intelligence in southern Gaza was killed, according to the Israeli military on Friday.
In a statement, the Israeli military identified the Hamas leader as Osama Tabash, stating that he was also the head of the militant group’s surveillance and targeting team.
At least 400 people were killed Tuesday, according to Palestinian health officials, with women and children making up over half of the fatalities.
The two sides have not been able to agree on a course for a second phase of the truce, which was meant to guarantee the release of the almost 60 hostages who are still alive and end the war, since the first phase ended two weeks ago. Netanyahu has halted all food and humanitarian delivery into the besieged region earlier this month in an effort to put pressure on Hamas, and he has repeatedly threatened to resume military action.
