Honeymoon Murder Case: Meghalaya Police Secure Custody of Killers

Published on

In a major development in the chilling “honeymoon murder” case, Meghalaya Police on Monday secured a seven-day transit remand of three men accused of killing Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. The accused will be brought to Shillong for further investigation, officials confirmed.

According to Additional DCP (Crime) Rajesh Dandotiya of Indore Police, the arrested trio — Raj Singh Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan — were presented before a Chief Judicial Magistrate and handed over to Shillong Police for a week-long transit custody. A fourth suspect, Anand, is also in custody and is being brought to Indore. All four will be taken to Meghalaya’s capital for further legal proceedings.

Murder Orchestrated by Victim’s Wife

In a shocking twist, Meghalaya Police revealed that the murder was allegedly orchestrated by the victim’s own wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. The couple had married on May 11 and left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20. However, the two were reported missing on May 23 while in Sohra (Cherrapunjee), a popular tourist destination in the state.

The case took a grim turn when Raja’s body was discovered at the bottom of a gorge on June 2, triggering nationwide outrage and demands for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe from the victim’s family. The wife, who had disappeared after the incident, surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, admitting her involvement.

Investigation Ongoing

The police allege that Sonam hired the three men to murder her husband during the honeymoon. Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the crime but suspect a premeditated conspiracy.

The gruesome case has sparked widespread attention and raised questions about pre-marital criminal intent. Meghalaya Police continue to investigate all angles, while legal proceedings are expected to intensify in the coming days.
