Hydrogen bus in Bhubaneswar soon :Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra
Bhubaneswar: Hydrogen-powered buses will soon operate in Bhubaneswar, with three vehicles set to begin service in the initial phase. Reports on Saturday confirmed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the same.
Additionally, new overbridges are planned at high-traffic areas in the city. Discussions have already taken place with the Public Works Department. The Chief Minister recently chaired a meeting to address the project. Initially, overbridges will be developed on Nandankanan Road and Kalpana Road. The department has begun work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
This is an ongoing story, and further updates are expected. Back in March, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) approved five pilot projects involving 37 hydrogen vehicles—buses and trucks—and nine hydrogen refuelling stations across the country. One of the routes includes Bhubaneswar-Konark-Puri.
The Government of India has collaborated with key industry players such as TATA Motors, Reliance Industries, NTPC, ANERT, Ashok Leyland, HPCL, BPCL, and IOCL. Around ₹208 crore has been allocated for these pilot initiatives, which are expected to be operational within 18 to 24 months.
