IMD Issues Nowcast Alert for Moderate Rain in 18 Odisha Districts

Published on

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast alert predicting moderate rainfall, light thunderstorms, and lightning in 18 districts of Odisha within the next three hours. The alert was released urging residents to remain cautious as adverse weather conditions are expected to intensify.

Rain and Thunderstorm Expected Across Several Districts

According to the IMD bulletin, the districts likely to be impacted include Angul, Balangir, Bargarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Sundargarh.

IMD Advises Caution Amid Lightning Threat

The IMD has advised people in the affected areas to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open fields, and take appropriate precautions to protect against lightning strikes. Those outdoors are encouraged to seek shelter in safe buildings and avoid standing under trees or near electric poles.

Cyclonic Circulation May Lead to More Rainfall

Weather officials have linked the current weather disturbance to a cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal, which may intensify into a low-pressure area in the coming days. This system could lead to increased rainfall activity across the state, particularly in coastal and interior regions.

IMD Urges Public Vigilance Amid Changing Weather Patterns

As the monsoon advances and atmospheric systems evolve, the IMD continues to monitor conditions closely. Citizens are urged to follow official updates and stay informed through weather advisories to ensure personal safety.
