Odisha Achieves Zero Health Casualties During Puri Rath Yatra 2025

Published on

Bhubaneswar: In a remarkable feat of public health management, the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department has reported zero health-related casualties during the 2025 Rath Yatra in Puri, one of India’s largest religious festivals. Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling extended his gratitude to all health officials, doctors, support staff, and volunteers whose coordinated efforts ensured the safety and well-being of lakhs of devotees.

Health Infrastructure Strengthened for Large-Scale Event

To effectively manage the health needs of the massive gathering, the department set up a camp office in Puri and significantly increased bed capacity from 140 to 265. Furthermore, 378 health specialists from other districts were brought in to enhance medical response times and service quality during the festival. For the first time, a specialist team from AIIMS, Bhubaneswar joined the treatment centre to provide expert assistance.

Ambulance Services Boosted for Emergency Response

A comprehensive ambulance network consisting of 74 vehicles was made available, including 31 government-run and 43 volunteer ambulances, ensuring rapid medical transport and emergency care throughout the event.

Public Health Awareness Through IEC Campaigns

The department conducted large-scale Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns to raise public awareness about food safety, safe drinking water, personal hygiene, handwashing practices, ORS usage, and COVID-19 precautions. The initiatives also highlighted key government schemes like Ayushman Bharat.

24×7 Health Control Room Ensured Constant Monitoring

A dedicated Rath Yatra Health Control Room operated round-the-clock to manage emergencies and coordinate medical services. Devotees could easily access medical assistance via the helpline: +91 6370560247 (mobile) and 06752-222175 (landline).

Minister Oversees Operations, Thanks Health Teams

Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling personally supervised the health department’s Rath Yatra operations and praised the doctors, nurses, paramedics, and volunteers for their tireless service. Their continuous efforts played a critical role in achieving this significant milestone of zero health-related casualties.
