INDIA Bloc to March from Parliament to Election Commission over ‘Vote Chori’ Allegations

The opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc, led by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, will hold a Vote Chori protest today, marching from Parliament to the Election Commission. The march is in response to alleged “vote theft” linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Parliamentary floor leaders from the bloc also plan to meet the Election Commissioners to voice their concerns. The Election Commission has confirmed an appointment at 12:00 PM for an interaction with Congress MP Jairam Ramesh and other leaders.

Vote Chori Protest Targets Electoral Roll Revision in Bihar

The protest comes amid allegations of voter fraud in Bihar and Karnataka. Congress MP Manickam Tagore has given an Adjournment Motion Notice in the Lok Sabha to discuss alleged “Vote Chori” in Mahadevapura, Karnataka.

At a press conference, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh claimed Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were filling out fake forms in one room, and that the same voter names appeared at multiple locations. He said Rahul Gandhi had demanded access to electronic voter list data to detect duplicate entries. Singh also questioned the speed of the SIR process in Bihar, which he said was being completed in one month instead of the two years it took in 2003.

Government Says SIR is a Constitutional Process

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated on August 1 that the government is willing to hold discussions on any issue within the rules but insisted that the SIR cannot be debated in Parliament as it is a process carried out by the Election Commission, a constitutional body.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have confirmed that no permission has been sought yet for the INDIA Bloc’s march from Parliament to the Election Commission.
