India Is A Symbol Of Peace, Inclusive Growth Amid Global Tensions, Trade Disruptions: PM Modi

Published on

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that amid rising global tensions, trade disruptions, and shifting supply chains, India stands as a symbol of strategic autonomy, peace, and inclusive growth. He emphasized that India’s maritime strength and expanding global partnerships have made the nation a “reliable and stabilising force” in uncertain times.

India as a Steady Lighthouse in Global Trade

Addressing the Global Maritime CEO Forum, PM Modi highlighted India’s growing role in global trade and said, “When global seas are rough, the world looks for a steady lighthouse. India can become that steady lighthouse.” He asserted that India’s maritime sector is one of the key drivers of the country’s growth and is advancing rapidly. “India’s maritime sector is in a very strong position and moving ahead very fast,” he said.

Global Participation and Sectoral Growth

The Prime Minister said the summit had evolved into a truly global platform with representatives from more than 85 nations. “This summit has become a global event. More than 85 nations are taking part, which is a big message to the whole world,” he stated, adding that the synergy and energy of India’s maritime sector have grown stronger.

PM Modi also highlighted the remarkable transformation in India’s maritime infrastructure over the past decade. “The maritime sector is driving India’s growth. Over the last decade, it has transformed significantly, boosting trade and port infrastructure,” he added.

Reforms and Modernisation in Maritime Sector

Prime Minister Modi said that the government had introduced “next-generation reforms” to strengthen the maritime sector and modernise its legal framework. “We have replaced over a century-old colonial shipping laws with modern, futuristic laws suited for the 21st century,” he noted.

He further pointed out that India’s ports are now among the most efficient in the developing world. “In many aspects, they are performing even better than those in the developed world,” he added.

India Maritime Week 2025: Vision for the Future

The Global Maritime CEO Forum, the flagship event of India Maritime Week 2025, brought together maritime CEOs, major investors, policymakers, innovators, and international partners to discuss the future of the global maritime ecosystem.

The forum serves as a vital platform for dialogue on sustainable maritime growth, resilient supply chains, green shipping, and strategies for an inclusive blue economy. PM Modi’s participation reflects his commitment to an ambitious, future-focused maritime transformation aligned with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The long-term vision is anchored on four strategic pillars — port-led development, shipping and shipbuilding, seamless logistics, and maritime skill-building — aimed at positioning India among the world’s leading maritime powers.

India Maritime Week 2025, held from October 27 to 31 under the theme “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision,” serves as the government’s premier global platform to translate this vision into action. The event featured participation from over 85 countries, with more than 1,00,000 delegates, 500 exhibitors, and 350 international speakers.
