India to Launch Modular Space Station by 2035: ISRO Chief Dr. V. Narayanan

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up to launch its own modular space station named the Bharatiya Antariksh Station by 2035, announced ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan. He was addressing the 7th convocation of IIITDM (Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing) at Jagannathagattu in Kurnool on Sunday.

ISRO’s Journey From Modest Beginnings to Global Power

Reflecting on India’s space journey, Dr. Narayanan recounted the humble beginnings of the programme in 1962 and the establishment of ISRO in 1969. He highlighted that India launched its first satellite weighing just 35 kg into orbit in 1980, marking the beginning of an extraordinary space legacy.

He pointed out that India now holds records such as launching 104 satellites in a single mission, showcasing its transformation into a global space leader.

Technological Advancements and National Impact

Dr. Narayanan underlined India’s growing leadership in science and technology, supported by sustained innovation and research.

• Leads in nine global technology categories

He also emphasized ISRO’s contribution to social sectors, noting how satellite systems support over 9 lakh deep-sea fishermen and are integral to the country’s tsunami warning infrastructure.

India’s Science and Tech Vision for 2047

Speaking about the future, the ISRO chief said:

“By 2047, India will be at the forefront of global science and technology, driven by strong innovation, digital infrastructure, and a knowledge-based economy.”

He praised the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in building the nation’s capabilities, improving infrastructure, and enhancing disaster preparedness.
