India vs Kuwait: PM congratulates Indian Football Team On Winning SAFF Championship 2023 Final

India vs Kuwait, SAFF Championship 2023 Final: The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian Football Team on winning SAFF Championship 2023.

The Prime Minister tweeted, “India crowned champions, yet again! The Blue Tigers reign supreme at the SAFF Championship 2023! Congrats to our players. The Indian Team’s remarkable journey, powered by the determination and tenacity of these athletes, will continue to inspire upcoming sportspersons.”

The Indian men’s football team won a thrilling penalty shootout against Kuwait 5-4, securing the SAFF Championship 2023 title at Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium. India won their eighth SAFF Championship out of 14 editions, despite being ranked 100th in the latest FIFA rankings. After winning the Intercontinental Cup the previous month, this was their second consecutive success.

India, as hosts, was undefeated during the SAFF Championship 2023. In the group stage, they overcame Pakistan and Nepal while drew with Kuwait. They defeated Lebanon in a penalty shootout in the semifinals and repeated the feat against Kuwait in a nail-biting final. In addition to the medals, the team received a cash prize of USD 50,000 (about INR 41 lakh).

The Kuwait football team won the award for coming second in the SAFF Championship 2023. While all of the players won medals, the squad also received a cheque for US Dollar 25,000, which is around 20 lakh and 50 lakhs in Indian currency.
