After winning the toss, captain Shreyas Iyer chose to field, and his fast bowlers justified the decision by dismantling Zimbabwe’s top order before the hosts staged a modest recovery.
India maintained pressure throughout the innings with accurate pace bowling and disciplined fielding, leaving Zimbabwe with a below-par total on a surface that rewarded consistency and movement.

Returning to international cricket, Mayank Yadav made an immediate impact by striking with the opening delivery of the match. His pace unsettled Zimbabwe’s batters from the outset, and he finished with figures of 2 for 18.
Prince Yadav complemented him brilliantly from the opposite end, picking up two wickets while keeping the scoring under control. Shivam Dube removed captain Sikandar Raza, and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi added another breakthrough as Zimbabwe slumped to 32 for 4 inside the powerplay.
The disciplined bowling display prevented the hosts from building any meaningful partnerships during the opening phase of the innings.

Despite the early setbacks, Wessly Madhevere steadied the innings with a composed 39, while Ryan Burl contributed 26 before falling during an attempted acceleration. Tadiwanashe Marumani remained unbeaten on 27 and guided Zimbabwe beyond the 120-run mark with sensible batting in the closing overs.
India, however, never allowed the momentum to shift completely. Tight bowling at the death restricted boundary opportunities, while sharp fielding produced a crucial run-out that halted Zimbabwe’s late charge.

India’s bowling unit combined pace, control and disciplined execution to seize the initiative in the opening match of the series. The impressive performances of Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav highlighted India’s growing fast-bowling depth, while Zimbabwe will look for a stronger batting display when the teams meet in the next T20I.
