In a swift and well-coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) operation, the Indian Navy in collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard successfully rescued 18 out of 22 crew members aboard the Singaporean-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503. The vessel had reported a major onboard fire following an internal container explosion.
Emergency Response Activated by Indian Navy
The Indian Navy confirmed receiving emergency distress inputs around 9:30 AM yesterday. In immediate response, INS Surat and a Dornier maritime patrol aircraft were deployed to the scene to offer urgent assistance and begin the rescue operation.
Injured Given First Aid, Ship Diverted to New Mangalore
The rescued crew members who sustained injuries were provided first aid onboard. The MV Wan Hai 503 is now en route to New Mangalore Port, where the crew will be disembarked for further medical treatment and evaluation.
