Israel Airstrike on Houthis in Yemen Kills Top Leaders in Sanaa

Published on

Sanaa: Israel launched a powerful airstrike on Houthis in Yemen’s capital Sanaa, inflicting heavy losses on the group’s military and political leadership. According to local media reports, the strike killed Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several of his close aides inside an apartment complex.

Israeli officials confirmed that the air raid targeted a high-level meeting of senior Houthi officials. The operation marks one of Israel’s most significant strikes against the Iran-backed militia in Yemen.

The precision strike reportedly killed Defence Minister Mohamed al-Atifi and Chief of Staff Muhammad Abd Al-Karim al-Ghamari, both key figures in the Houthi military command. Al-Ghamari had already been injured in a previous Israeli strike but continued to lead operations against Israel.

Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz, who approved the operation alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and IDF Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir, said the Houthis had been warned about the consequences of repeatedly targeting Israel.

The Israeli military also released a statement confirming that it had struck a “Houthi terrorist regime military target” in Sanaa on Thursday.

Houthis’ Role in Regional Escalation

The Houthis, who dominate Yemen’s northwestern regions including Sanaa and the Red Sea coast, have become increasingly active in regional conflicts. Since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, the group has launched multiple missile and drone attacks against Israel and targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

Their actions have threatened international trade routes and added another layer of instability to the already volatile Middle East.

Israel and US-Led Coalition Response

In retaliation to Houthi attacks, Israel and a US-led coalition have conducted months of heavy bombardments on Houthi-controlled territories, including Sanaa and the strategic port city of Hodeida. The latest strike demonstrates Israel’s growing resolve to neutralize threats posed by Iran-backed militias operating outside Gaza.

Military analysts believe that eliminating senior leaders could significantly weaken the Houthis’ operational capacity, though the group is likely to retaliate with further attacks.
