RANCHI: The Jharkhand government is preparing to cancel the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) preliminary examination following more than two weeks of protests by aspirants over alleged irregularities, according to sources.
The government has reportedly accepted most of the demands raised by the protesting students but remains opposed to their demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry.
Most Student Demands Accepted
Sources said the government has agreed to several demands raised during discussions with the protesters.
The state is also prepared to initiate investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) into alleged wrongdoing involving backlog examination papers.
The government has communicated its position to the main student group and assured protesters that investigators would file a chargesheet within 90 days.
However, students have continued to insist on a CBI investigation, keeping the dispute from being fully resolved.
Government Rejects Demand to Cancel All Exams
Another point of disagreement concerns examinations taken by Abhay Tiwari, who has been accused in connection with the alleged irregularities.
The government is reportedly unwilling to cancel every examination taken by Tiwari. He is said to have cleared 12 examinations over the past 13 years.
Students, meanwhile, have demanded cancellation of the JPSC examination conducted on April 19, along with wider reforms to the recruitment examination system.
CID Questions JPSC Members
Amid the ongoing controversy, a CID team has summoned three serving JPSC members for questioning in connection with the alleged irregularities.
The investigation is continuing as authorities examine allegations surrounding the recruitment examination process.
Hemant Soren Promises Justice to Students
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said protesting students would receive justice and that those responsible for irregularities would face severe punishment.
Addressing a public rally, Soren said young people had the right to protest and claim their rights, adding that his government had exposed wrongdoing in the recruitment system.
He also urged political parties not to use the students’ concerns for political purposes.
Soren Calls for Dialogue
The Chief Minister appealed for dialogue to resolve the dispute and said the government’s approach would remain transparent.
He argued that political interference should not overshadow the concerns of students and assured protesters that their grievances would be addressed.
With the government reportedly ready to cancel the JPSC preliminary examination, attention now turns to whether the two sides can resolve the remaining disagreement over the demand for a CBI probe.
