Kakori Train Action Centenary: PM Modi, Amit Shah Honour Revolutionaries

Published on

New Delhi: On the 100th anniversary of the historic Kakori Train Action, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the revolutionaries whose courage struck a blow against colonial exploitation.

In a social media post, PM Modi said that on this day in 1925, the bravery of patriotic Indians in Kakori reflected the deep resentment against British rule and the misuse of people’s money for colonial interests. He added that their valour will always be remembered and that the government remains committed to fulfilling their dream of a strong and prosperous India.

Amit Shah Calls Kakori Train Action a Symbol of Sacrifice

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the Kakori Train Action as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. In a post on X, he recalled how on August 9, 1925, freedom fighters like Ram Prasad Bismil, Chandrashekhar Azad, and Ashfaqulla Khan ignited the torch of revolution, shaking the foundations of the British Empire.

He noted that these revolutionaries sought to ensure that wealth looted from Indians by the British would be used for the nation’s welfare. The nation, he said, will forever remain indebted to their bravery and selflessness.

Historical Significance of the Kakori Train Action

The Kakori Train Action took place near Kakori railway station when revolutionaries from the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) stopped the Number 8 down train and looted funds from the British Government Treasury stored in the guard’s cabin.

Participants included Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Thakur Roshan Singh, Rajendranath Lahiri, and Sachindranath Sanyal. The primary aim was to finance the HRA’s revolutionary activities and protest the heavy taxation imposed on Indians by the British administration.

The incident remains one of the most remarkable acts of defiance in India’s freedom struggle, inspiring generations with its daring execution and patriotic spirit.
